The Story of the People’s Calendar
Back in 2013, Dan was on his annual hunt for a calendar but couldn’t find one that felt right. He reluctantly picked up a 12-month spread of pugs and, after a year of staring at it on his wall, was inspired to create something different—a calendar that local people would genuinely enjoy. His idea was simple: make it local. Highlight community events, use local photos from Bay Area photographers, print on high-quality paper, and keep everything, from production to binding, right here in San Francisco. The first People’s Calendar debuted in 2015 with an initial run of 250 copies.
In 2015, Noah joined Dan, bringing with him a team of design students who helped refine the calendar’s look and feel, adding structure and style to its community-focused purpose.
After all of these year, we’re still figuring things out as we go! We’re always looking for ways to make the People’s Calendar more engaging and relevant to San Francisco. That means listening to feedback, adding new events, exploring fresh design ideas, and expanding our network of local photographers and contributors. Our goal is simple: to make the best calendar we can for our community. We’re proud that it’s 100% made in San Francisco and honored to be part of SF Made and the local maker movement.
